These antibodies are highly specific for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), making anti-CCP IgG one of the most important serologic biomarkers for this disease. Citrullinated proteins are thought to become immunogenic in genetically susceptible individuals, leading to chronic joint inflammation and autoimmunity.
